Just a reminder for the season.

Please stay off the lakes.  Too many little creeks feed in and leave open water or thin ice.  Too often the ice is poor quality.  The water is cold and can be deep.  Several sleds go through the ice every season.  We want everybody to enjoy snowmobiling for a long time.  We do not want another Superbowl Sunday like January 24th, 1992 when three perished one dark evening on Chautauqua Lake.

    You should follow this:

    Failure can lead to this:

    Stay off the lakes

    Drowning
Destroy sled on pressure ridge and get hurt
Cabin Fever, sled on bottom of lake until Spring

Stay on trail or stay home

    Personal injury or death
Finding barbed-wire fences, creeks, ditches, ponds
Loss of trails for everyone after disrespecting Landowner

    Snow and alcohol don't mix

Suicidal trees jumping out in front of you
    DWI charge against Driver's License

    Stop Signs really mean Stop

Getting on Buffalo TV after being hit by car
Learning that cars have bigger bumpers than you do
Why do you think we put up Stop signs?

    Trails are not racetracks.

Hit me & I'll call one of those lawyers on TV
Doing a face first into a tree at 70 mph
In a big hurry?  Get off trail, park sled, drive car

The are many dozens, if not hundreds of miles of local trails that are not on our maps.  Not to mention trails in neighboring club areas of New York and Pennsylvania.

How much snow?  Chautauqua County's average for the last 49 years is 203"

That's the average for the whole county.  Along Lake Erie we get very little while the snowbelt villages of Clymer, French Creek, Mayville, Sherman, and Stockton get a lot more.

The 2000-2001 season totals:    Mayville: 258.3"    Sherman: 301.5"    (Not bad considering we got very little snow during February.  We got snow very early and very late this year.)

2002-2003 season totals:  Mayville 245" as of 03/07/2003
(No big melt-offs this year so it all stayed!)

    2003-2004 season totals:

2004-2005 season totals:  Mayville broke 250"  (not bad considering we had record high temperatures of almost 70 in January.
