After much anticipation, trails officially opened Saturday for snowmobilers across Chautauqua County. However, the day was bittersweet, as some landowners closed off trails because of trespassing concerns. YNN's Katie Cummings talks with an area snowmobile club and landowner on how it affected the season.

Due to the lack of respect from some riders, landowners nearly closed a 9 mile stretch of trail from French Creek to Pine Junction and also S52 toward the Busti we have worked over 10 years to put together has been closed for the season. The trail from French Creek to Pine Junction is open again due to a gracious landowner so lets keep it that way. We cannot express how meaningful it is to stay off the trails as we only have so many landowners in our county. The continual lack of respect from a few roage riders will make riding in the county impossible if we don’t have landowner support

French Creek Trail has been reopened once the trails reopen, please keep it this way by staying off closed trails

Ever wonder where the “Road Tax” goes when you purchase fuel for your sled? When filling up on the trails please remember to go inside the gas station and ask to sign the log sheet for your gas purchase. New York State will reimburse participating clubs $.08 per gallon of road tax for all fuel sold for use in your snowmobiles. Many Gas Station’s on our trail system are taking the extra step in supporting our Club by keeping the log sheets and collecting the receipts throughout the season!.

If you are filling up after hours with a credit card, you can hold on to your receipt, and sign the log sheet the next time you purchase gas. Our club has risen close to$2000 just by you filling up and turning in the duplicate receipt inside!

Winter is here and there is one thing on our minds and that’s riding our sleds! This off season has been a challenge for ALL of our trail captains. Due to the lack of respect for landowner’s properties, Our club had to replace a couple of our landowner's trees, and they were very pleased with us after taking care of the damage after the whole destruction incident...(there is still a $500 reward for arrest and conviction of the person(s) who did the damage.) However, the trail has been changed in French Creek to the tune of at least $4000+ in materials and many volunteer hours for the new trail.

There have been many trail changes in Findley Lake, Sherman, and French Creek, Mayville, Brocton, and Panama due to issues with snowmobilers not staying on the designated trails as per landowner agreement and trail markings! This costs a lot of time, money, and hard labor by a select few for those that don't abide by the rules. Remember it is a privilege to ride on someone else's property.....STAY ON TRAIL OR STAY HOME! To the good thought, we do have more new trails this year....2 in the Mayville State Lands, one near Brocton and you can now access Fuel in Brocton and the trail going to Busti, NY, but to make the trail in Busti go further, we need many new volunteers from the Frewsburg, NY area to help with this advancement and dollars to be found to make this happen. So for now, you can get in town to Busti but that's all for this year.

Our club has also purchased a 2006 BR 180 and 3 2011 Mogul Master 18-09, 11 Blade Drags! You will also see many improvements on the Findley Lake trail and Mayville-Stockton trail all made wider, and smoother Due to all the new changes, please be aware of the postings/markings and stay in the designated marked areas. Please respect the landowner....no gestures or complaining...without them our trails would not be possible!

Another new thing we are doing this year is going paperless. Our club spends thousands of dollars on mailings which could be used for fuel for our groomer fleet. A night of grooming cost’s the club over $1000 in fuel and we groom 4 nights a week (sometimes 7 in some areas) with all 9 of our Groomers! Our club has figured out to be an average of over $1000 PER-MILE to operate our 200+ mile trail system every year.

You will receive your membership renewal in the late summer via US Mail and your membership packet which you just received. All we ask you to do is add your email address so we can get your voucher to you in the fall after you sent in you payment for renewal to CLSC. We DO NOT distribute or sell our membership list to anyone! We will be sending our info for the end of season party later this year via email and any other communications we may need to send, and always check the club website www.chautauquasnow.com for trail closures, openings and events!

The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer. It only means one thing… WINTER IS COMING! It’s time to pull those sleds out of storage and get them ready to hit the trails this winter.

The CLSC Board Members and Club Officers are working hard on developing a plan to make this the best season ever by improving trails, updating groomers, grooming equipment(drags), signage, widening trails, and bridges.

The Club is always looking for members that can come out and lend a hand to get the trails ready. It may sound like hard work, but you get a good feeling that you helped and made a difference to your trail system that we all love to ride in the winter. Please check the club website for upcoming work parties.

If you can’t come out and help with trail maintenance please help the club by donating to the Groomer Fund. 100% of your donations go directly to the groomer fund which helps pay for things like diesel, parts, drags, new groomers and safety equipment so you don’t encounter a groomer head on! Also, I would like to thank members for making CLSC the largest snowmobile club in NYS with close to 2300 members! This could not have happened without you!

Don’t forget to check out the club activity card when you receive your membership package. Every weekend during the riding season we have an event going on whether it’s a dinner ride or a member part at various locations! We are the only club in Chautauqua County to offer something to our members EVERY weekend and that’s what makes it worth joining the Chautauqua County Snowmobile Club!

I would like to start out by thanking all of you for making the Chautauqua Lake Snowmobile Club one the largest snowmobile clubs in New York State with over 2300 members!

I would like to take the time to introduce myself. My name is Beth Perry and I have taken over the Membership Coordinator postion for CLSC. I'm so excited to be stepping in as Membership Coordinator! I have been working along with Brandy the last couple of years and hope to keep up the excellent job she has been doing. I feel that consistent increase in memberships just shows that the CLSC is the best out there.

Well it’s hard to believe that it’s that time of year again… So, you have received your snowmobile registrations in the mail and you’re wondering, what is the easiest way to receive the club membership discount and register my snowmobiles? There are several options to pick from:

You can join CLSC by mailing your membership application directly to the membership coordinator @ CLSC membership, 5600 Springbrook Rd, Dewittville, NY 14728. Please allow 2 weeks for processing time.

You can join our club online with a credit card via the NYSSA website @ https://membership.nyssnowassoc.org/ and receive your voucher immediately. If you are registering through the NYSSA you will not have the ability to buy a clubhouse keys or join our trail bonus program during the checkout process.

You can also apply for a CLSC membership in person at any Chautauqua County DMV office should you wait until the last minute to register your sled. The DMV has membership applications located in their offices. We do encourage everyone to sign up as early as possible so we can get the money into the trails to help pay for gas and maintenance on equipment.

To view all the benefits of our club please view our membership page on the website.

If you have not received your membership within two weeks please feel free to call and check on the status. Please be patient, all the work that is done for the CLSC is voluntary and is done around our full time jobs.

Your help is desperately needed to get our trail system up and ready for the 2011-2012 season! Bring your 4-wheelers, chain saws, or just come and help clear brush, and post trail signs with us. Lunch is usually provided, call Steve Smith at 716-753-6704 or Jeff Richards at 716-753-6960 to get on a scheduled work party.

Those who work 15 hours on the trails will receive a 10% Bonus Program Gold Card, and those who work 25 or more hours will earn a 15% Platinum Card. This program makes it easy for the membership and businesses to share the costs of trail maintenance. After all, we both benefit from well maintained and groomed trails!

Come out and support the bonus program, participating local businesses and most importantly - support the club! Remember - Trail Sponsor Bonus Program Cards are good for twelve months.
