Hello,
I am relatively new to snowmobiling and I really don't get much of a chance to ride because i live in Florida. I am originally from Fredonia, NY and after 10 years of living in FL, I finally decided to buy a sled last year. I keep it at my parents place on Berry Rd in Frdonia and usually I ride from their house when there is enough snow below the Chautauqua Ridge. Last year I was able to ride over 1000 miles on three seperate trips to NY. This year I plan on making two trips with the first one hopefully being the 11th through the 18th of January. Last year I mostly rode on the Cassadaga/Cherry Creek side of Chautauqua County. This year i plan on riding every trail in the county. I really want to ride out towards Sherman and to Pine Junction. I've heard that the Pine Junction Tavern is a great place. Please chime in on where you like to ride adn which establishments you frequent. Happy riding!!

I ride on the west side of the lake mostly and prefer those trails to the east side unless they have lots of snow over there. Lots of secondary trails through the state parks on the west side as well that are really nice. Pine junction, downtown Mayville, French creek tavern are decent places to eat with the Junction being my favorite. All trails in the county are very nice so you really cant go wrong with any trip as long as there is decent snow cover.

The group I ride with are from Pa., we haul to Edinboro Pa. and ride to N.Y., we found that Pine Junction is an excellent place to eat. We usually ride thru there and make a loop up thru Stockton and Cassadaga then back to Pa. There is another very good place to eat in Stockton, but I cant remember the name, it's like a hotel or something. We found the trails around the Mayville / French Creek area to usually, but not always, to be the best. Last weekend South of Mayville was decent and Pa. was really good for December riding. The farther north we went the worse it got, wound up turning around....Good luck and think SNOW !!!

I see the trails are closed due to the recent rain. I was crossing my fingers that there wouldn't be much of an impact from the recent warmup, but that didn't work. I am still trying to get up there on the 10th of this month. I will have to keep an eye out for the upcomming weather changes. Please keep me informed of the trail conditions.

Toolmaker, I'm looking to go riding in NY for the first time so I was looking for information and came across your post. I rode a little bit last year in the Pymatuning area and heard some guys talking about good riding in the Edinboro area but I could never find any information on trails there. When I read that you go from there to NY it cought my interest. I hope you dont mind if I ask you a few questions. Are the trails in Endinboro up to NY marked or are they just some trails that only a local guy would know? Another question I have for you is when you ride in NY is there any one trail that would be a good one to start out on until I learned the trails up there? From what I'm reading Pine Junction is the place to eat.
I live just outside of Pittsburgh so if I could find a trail from Erie to NY or ever Edinboro up would be great, more time on the sled and less in the truck is always better. I'm going to try to get up there next Sunday and Monday weather permiting.
Thanks, Any information would be greatly appreciated. Beetle

Neighbor club of Presque Isle maintains the trails just east of 79 where you'd be coming from. I've driven by their club on the trail and they do have parking but I'm not sure of the address. If you join that club as well you'll get parking and a map there. Trails are marked decent and are a little tighter and more road riding than you'll see in NY. We come from ohio and drive past this location and park at Peek n Peak because thats where the trails start to open up. No bad choices though, just different riding is all...

Beetle, The trails are marked...I haul up I-79 to McKean exit and drive into McKean, at the light turn right go approx 3/4 mile or so and bear to the right on Old Rt #99, you will go down this road for a mile and a half or so and The Valley Inn is on the left, that is where I park. It is a safe place to leave your vehicle. Join the Mckean Club or the Presque Isle club, there are maps available of the system. I don't think any one trail in N.Y. is a better one to start on, in my opinion, I think they are all great. You will not have any problems with obstacles or things like that if that is what you worried about. Don't forget to patronize The Valley Inn when you get back from riding, very nice of them to let the snowmobilers park in thier parking lot. The nice thing is this place is only 3 miles from the interstate !! Good luck...have fun... Maybe we will run into each other out there

That sounds good, it give me a good starting point. I'm sending in my membership to the McKean Snow Riders today. How's the food at the Valley Inn, Hopefully we'll have enough snow this weekend to give it a try. Dont worry about me patronizing the local establishment, if they're taking care of the sledders then I'll take care of them. Hows the food?
Looking at the NY map that I got with my CLSC membership it looks like there's plenty of places to get gas once your out on the trails in NY. Do you happen to know what trail your on when you enter NY?
Thanks for the information, if any one thinks of any other places to stay, eat or must see kinda things please let me know. If my wife's happy when we're done riding then she might let me come back.
